Work in rounds. Two head pieces will be joined together – with stuffing and rattle inbetween. Sew ears, snout parts and mane extension after the head is finished and joined with the ring.
Head – front yellow
Rnd 1: start 5 sc in a mr (5)
Rnd 2: inc 5 times (10)
Rnd 3: *sc, inc* (15)
Rnd 4: 10 sc, inc 5 times (20)
Rnd 5: *3 sc, inc* (25)
Rnd 6: 15 sc, *sc, inc* 5 times (30)
Rnd 7: *5 sc, inc* (35)
Rnd 8: *6sc, inc* (40)
Rnd 9 +10: sc in all 40 (40)
FO & weave in tail.
Snout white (make two)
Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a mr (6)
Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
Rnd 3: *sc, inc* 4 times (12)
FO before ending the round & leave a tail to sew the snout to the head.
Insert safety eyes and sew snout parts to the yellow headpiece.
Head – back orange
Rnd 1: start 5 sc in a mr (5)
Rnd 2: inc 5 times (10)
Rnd 3: *sc, inc* (15)
Rnd 4: *2 sc, inc* (20)
Rnd 5: *3 sc, inc* (25)
Rnd 6: *4 sc, inc* (30)

Rnd 10: 4 ch + slst in the next 16 st, 7 or 9 ch + slst in the next 24 st (40)
FO & leave a long tail to sew both head layers together; stuffed and filled with rattle.
Sew both head parts together, rattle inbetween and stuff as you go. Double check the proportion of the lions face before closing the last gap.
Ear (mak two)
Rnd 1: start 6 sc in a mr (6)
Rnd 2: inc 6 times (12)
Rnd 3: *sc, inc* (18)
Rnd 4-6: sc in all 18 (18)
FO & leave a tail to sew the ears to the head – about 10’ and 2’ o’clock.
Mane extension
work in rows start with 24 ch
Row 1: 6 or 7 ch + slst in the next 23 st
FO & leave a long tail to sew the mane to the head around the ears from cheek to cheek – about 7’ and 5’ o’clock.
Ring
Start with 14ch, sl st to close the round
Rnd 1-45: sc in all 14 (14)
FO & leave a long tail.
Stuff the tube slightly and sew first to last row. Sew the ring to the head.
